The “Sierra” equipment is an AERO satellite communication system for access to the Thuraya
and/or Iridium Satellite Networks on a single or multiple simultaneous channels.
A GSM option can be added as complementary third telecom channel.
It consists into a transceiver with an aero antenna.
It provides the following services:
For Thuraya network:
- Full duplex, regional voice communication at 4.8 Kbps
- Circuit data services up to 9.6 Kbps
- GmRPS data services up to 30 Kbps for Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia (latest coverage map may be found at www.thuraya.com)
- Analog or digital G3 fax service
For Iridium network:
- Full duplex, global voice communication at 2.4 Kbps
- Circuit data services up to 9.6 Kbps
- G1 fax service up to 2.4 Kbps
