The buoy uses a semi-rigid structure with four square, drag-inducing “vanes” extending from a central cylindrical hull. The center of drag is positioned at 1 meter of water depth. Positive buoyancy is obtained via 4 small floats attached to the vane arms. This design minimizes the influence of wind and the forces resulting from wave action. The DBi Iridium-CODE is the only buoy of its type that offers a single mast antenna system – further reducing wind-induced drag.
For best results and the most efficient operation, the unit should be powered up on deck to verify operation and initialize the GPS prior to deployment. If this is not possible, the buoy can simply be lowered into the water where it will self-deploy within less than 30 minutes. The packaging materials are bio-degradable so as not to damage the environment.
Optional: Extended Battey 400 days battery duration with 15 minutes reporting (standard battery will last 200 days with 15 minutes reporting)
Each SBD message will use 14 byte for Position, Water Temperature and Battery level
